Get To Know Stephen Johnston
Currently in his 6th year as a City Councillor for West Kelowna, Stephen has led the polls in both the 2018 and 2022 elections. He also served as a Director for the Regional District of the Central Okanagan from 2018 to May 2024, stepping down to focus on his campaign for MLA. Stephen is known as a trusted leader with a proven record of integrity and unwavering dedication to local governance.
As a Councillor, Stephen played a key role in delivering major infrastructure and planning projects. Some of his notable accomplishments include the Rose Valley Water Treatment Plant, West Kelowna’s first City Hall, the OurWK Community Vision document, and a new Official Community Plan designed to guide West Kelowna’s growth toward a prosperous and sustainable future. He has also contributed to various infrastructure and road improvements, community safety initiatives, and critical advocacy projects like securing a second power transmission line, highway intersection upgrades, and affordable housing.
A lifelong resident of West Kelowna, Stephen attended Rose Valley Elementary and graduated from Mount Boucherie Secondary, where he met his high school sweetheart, Leah! Married for 19 years, they have built their lives and raised their family in the community Stephen has always been proud to call home.
Stephen’s dedication to community service was inspired by his parents’ example and leadership. He has since directed that passion toward roles such as board member of the West Kelowna Minor Baseball Association, President of the West Kelowna Shelter Society, Vice Chair of the West Kelowna Economic Development Committee, and board member at Emmanuel Church—always striving to uplift and strengthen his community.
As a Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter, entrepreneur, and professional in sales and business development in the construction industry, Stephen brings a well-rounded perspective on the housing challenges facing the region, with a focus on creating affordable homes.
In his free time, Stephen loves spending time outdoors with his family, exploring the beautiful landscapes of the Central Okanagan. He’s also an avid baseball fan who enjoys coaching, playing, and cheering from the sidelines.
